News : Response to RNLI Perfect Storm appeal
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution has recently posted letters to residents of the Southport Area asking for donations to their Perfect Storm appeal.
Many of our supporters, crew members and volunteers have been in touch with us after receiving these letters which to give money to their local lifeboat, despite the Southport Lifeboat being totally independent of the RNLI.
The closest RNLI stations to Southport are at Lytham St Anne's and New Brighton, both of which are more than 30 minutes away from Southport.
We appreciate the great work the RNLI do around the coast and have good working relationships with our neighbouring Lifeboat stations.
However we are not happy with the decision by their head office in Poole to target not only Southport, but other towns with an Independent Lifeboat service in this way.
We wish to share with you a letter we have sent to the Cheif Executive of the RNLI expressing our feelings towards their approach.
Thank you for your continued support.
