Both Quad bikes were bought in September 2011 to replace the existing vehicles which had been in use September 2008.
The Quads are used to scout the large area of sand that covers from Southport to Liverpool. They are primarily used to search the coastline, and can easily cross the sand dunes, gullies and pine woods. The bikes can also be used to carry the mud rescue equipment and to launch Southport IRB.
They can also be used as a rapid response vehicle and get to casualties fast to assess the situation and offer reassurance to them before other rescue resources can arrive.
