The launch vehicle started off life as a Benford site dumper truck. It was originally converted into a working launch vehicle for the Southport Lifeboat in 2000. Following 4 years of service, the vehicle was in need of refurbishment. Darren Bunker of MI-Technology gave a lot of his spare time over a 3 1/2 year period to completely re-build the launch vehicle.
The engine was donated by Alan Lovejoy (now retired) of Cummins Engines Company, Darlington.
The vehicle's primary use is for launching the main lifeboat. It's speed and design provide an ideal vehicle that can cope with all the pressures of launching the lifeboat. It can also be used as to launch Southport IRB and as an additional beach search asset.
